About Us
John Maillard is a New Zealand-based artist, researcher, and Controlled Remote Viewing (CRV) practitioner with an international background in creative practice, education, and applied remote viewing.
Originally trained in the United Kingdom, John holds a BA (Hons) in Film, Photography and Animation from the Surrey Institute of Art & Design and a Master’s degree in Photography and Interactivity from De Montfort University. He also holds a post-baccalaureate qualification in Special Education. John developed a long career as a photographer, exhibiting artist, and educator, later serving as a senior lecturer and programme leader in photography and interactive design for more than two decades, teaching areas including digital imaging, visual communication, UX/UI design, and creative technologies.
Alongside his artistic career, John has pursued extensive training in Controlled Remote Viewing (CRV), studying with leading figures in the field including Lyn Buchanan. His work focuses on the disciplined application of CRV methodologies in practical contexts such as archaeological research, investigative projects, and exploratory consciousness studies.
John has served as a project manager and remote viewer on collaborative projects involving international teams of viewers, working on targets related to historical locations, archaeological sites, and missing-person cases. He has also explored the integration of CRV with emerging technologies, developing experimental tools and applications designed to support viewer training and session analysis.
In addition to his remote viewing work, John continues an active creative practice as a mixed-media artist and photographer, producing large-format works that combine drawing, photography, and digital processes, often exploring themes of landscape, perception, and human experience.
As IRVA’s Community of Special Interest (CSI) representative for New Zealand and Australia, John works to support the growth of the remote viewing community across the region, encouraging responsible practice, collaboration, and education in the field.
